Although rotary engines are still a ways off, mid-engined cars dominated rallying in the golden age. Audi engineers secretly designed a dozen 1000bhp midengined rally cars in the early Eighties. The bosses demanded their destruction, but the RX-7 survived. This car would go on becoming the rally's most iconic symbol. This is what you need to know regarding the car rally of tomorrow.

Audi S1

The original Audi S1 was the fastest car rally, producing 591bhp. The Audi A1, which was its predecessor, was one of the most popular rally cars ever. This was a testimony to the design and engineering that made it so successful. The Audi S1 was re-imagined as an electric hybrid. It has two electric motors, one for each axle. The Audi S1 is constructed to meet FIA safety requirements.

FAQ

What do I need to know about car mechanics?

Auto mechanics don't require any knowledge. All you need to know is how to fix things. Most people start by fixing things like changing tires or fitting brake pads.

It is important to be able to read and understand diagrams as well as written instructions. You will also need to understand how parts should be replaced or repaired.

You should not attempt to fix vehicles without proper training and guidance. This is especially true for expensive components, such as transmissions and engines.

Even though you won’t need to know much more about cars, you will still need to have an in-depth understanding of mechanics and physics. This means understanding the principles behind how engines work and how brakes function.

Noting that all situations are possible, it is important to be prepared. For instance, you might find yourself in charge of a vehicle that has been in a serious accident. Additionally, you will need to have experience with handling accidents and breakdowns.

It is important to be open to learning new skills quickly. Not only will you need to be capable of diagnosing problems, but you also need to be able perform simple maintenance tasks like tightening nuts.

Is it really worth becoming a mechanic.

The answer to this question depends on what you want from life if you are looking for money, then yes, but if you're looking for meaning and purpose, then no.

You don't need to be a mechanic if you don't know how. It's not going to make you rich. It will not make you famous. It's unlikely that it will change your life.

This would require you to spend many years learning how to properly do everything. This would mean that you would have to pay someone else for your car's repair. This is why most people don’t bother. They find something better.

To sum up, if you want to earn lots of money then go ahead. If you are looking for a fulfilling life, however, then stay clear of the mechanics' industry.

How do I fix my car for a hobby?

Why not make it a hobby if you're interested in cars? You can repair them, buy their parts, sell them, or just have fun with them. This would be a wonderful hobby if you're looking to find something completely different.

It's not an easy task to make this a full-time job. It takes dedication and hardwork. Also, you will need to put a lot of money into it.

It is best to avoid getting involved in car accidents unless you have good reasons.

What is the difference?

These two jobs are very similar but not identical. A mechanic repairs cars while an automotive technician does maintenance on them.

A mechanic should be able to do simple tasks quickly and have good manual dexterity. They must also be able to diagnose problems accurately and repair them effectively.

An automotive technician requires more technical skills than a mechanic. They must be able and able to read blueprints as well as use tools like drills or wrenches.

They must also be able to carry out complex procedures safely. They must be familiar with all types of electrical and engine systems.

They must also be able to understand how various parts interact with each other.

The result is that a mechanic often earns less than an auto technician. However, both careers offer great opportunities.

What type of job is there for a car mechanic?

For car mechanics, there are three main areas for employment:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

Most people think of this as the first step to becoming a mechanic. It's the easiest way for most people to get started. Either you can work in a shop that is owned by another person or start your own business.

If you choose to work at a store, you need to join a union. After being accepted into the union, the union will provide training.

Once you complete the training, it's time to get started.

Registering with the government is required if you intend to open a garage. After you register, you will be required to meet specific standards.

When you've registered, you'll be given a license to operate your garage.

You can sell spare parts or do minor repairs with your license. It won't allow you to fix major engine problems.

Apart from selling spare parts, customers will also expect you to provide guidance and advice.

Dealership jobs

Many dealerships have mechanics who are experts in one particular area. They might specialize in one area, such as brakes and tires.

Some dealers also have general mechanics that can handle all aspects.

Many of these positions require that applicants undergo training before they are allowed to work. This allows employers to select the most qualified candidates for their roles.

Some dealerships recruit students right out of school. These graduates already know the basics of mechanical engineering and therefore have no problem learning about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages don’t have to be associated with any particular dealer. Instead, they tend to focus on providing high-quality service.

Independent garages are not associated with any companies so they can afford higher wages. This makes them generally more well-paid than jobs at dealerships.

However, independent garages do not necessarily offer better workplaces. Many owners prefer to run their businesses themselves rather than delegate responsibility to employees.

It is possible to work long hours, but not have any control over the day.

Additionally, you should expect to earn lower wages if employed by a dealership.

The good news is that you can easily switch between different kinds of jobs. Ask your employer if you would like to work as a mechanic at a dealership.

Alternatively, if you'd like to work at an independent garage, then you could try applying directly to the owner of the garage.

It's not always easy to find a job. Many other factors can also influence the amount you earn.

For example, the type of vehicle you repair and whether you charge extra for labor.

How To

How to Become an Automotive Technician

An automotive technician performs repairs and maintains vehicles. He/she works in car dealerships as well as auto shops, garages, and service centers. He/she helps customers fix their cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, boats, lawn mowers, snowmobiles, tractors, trailers, farm equipment, planes, helicopters, jet skis, watercraft, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, golf carts, etc. An automotive technician must be able to diagnose problems and make repairs quickly, safely, accurately, and efficiently.

A person who wants to work as an automotive technician should first obtain an associate degree from a vocational school. After completing the program, he/she must pass ASE certification. ASE stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. There are two parts to the ASE certification exam. The first section tests your mechanical skills, while the second tests your practical knowledge. You must attend one of the authorized testing sites to take the test. These testing sites can be found online and through your local dealer.

Before becoming an automotive technician, a candidate must pass the test. This process is different depending on where you live. Some states require applicants to take a training course while others allow them the freedom to study on their own. Some states allow technicians to become licensed right away after receiving their license. While others wait until they have had at least six years of experience as an automotive technician.

Apply to your local dealership to become an automotive technician. New employees are usually apprentices when they first get hired. Apprenticeship programs last about three years. The apprenticeship program teaches students how to change oil, adjust brakes, replace tires, clean spark plugs, inspect engine compartments, and perform routine maintenance. Some students will learn advanced repair techniques, such as changing shocks, installing air filters, and replacing engines. Many schools offer classes during regular hours. However, some schools offer evening classes if needed.

Once a student is done with his/her apprenticeship he/she can become a master journeyman. Journeymen spend typically four to five years learning to install major systems such as transmissions and differentials, steering gear, suspensions and drive shafts. They learn how to do complex repairs such as remanufacturing engines, rebuilding transmissives, and troubleshooting electronic components. Many employers prefer hiring journeymen because they know the job well and understand what the customer expects.

After passing the exams, candidates may be eligible to open their own shop if they pass all requirements. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2010, nearly 1.7 Million automotive mechanic jobs were available. This number is expected to increase by 18% between 2009 and 2020. A candidate who plans to open a shop should expect to spend many thousands of dollars on equipment and supplies.

The salary of an automotive technician will depend on many factors including where you live, your education level, experience and the type of employer. On average, a jobless person could expect to earn $20,000 annually. An individual with a high school diploma can earn about $21,000 per annum. A bachelor's degree is equivalent to approximately $24,000 annually. Technicians with bachelor's degrees earned about $27,000 per year. And those with master's degrees made around $32,000 per year. Salary increases are common, so a professional who earns less than $30,000 now could reasonably expect to earn $40,000 or more in just a few years.
